PhD position in Control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at SnT, University of Luxembourg
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), Automation & Robotics Research Group (http://wwwen.uni.lu/snt/ research/automation_robotics_ research_group), is looking for a PhD candidate:

• The Ph.D. study program is 3 years, starting with a fixed term employment contract of 14 months extendable
up to 36 months, on full time basis (40hrs/week)

• Start date: Early 2016 upon agreement.

Your Role
The successful candidate will join the SnT Automation & Robotics Research Group, a dynamic and exciting research team led by Prof. Holger Voos. The main research priorities of the team are in the area of networked control systems and perception and control in mobile robotics. Within this PhD research project, the main focus is on the investigation of control approaches to generate emergency evasive manoeuvres for small UAVs based on the information coming from the perception architecture. The candidate will conduct full scale experiments, including simulation and real-world implementation, data acquisition and validation in indoor and outdoor environments. Indoor tests and validation will be done at the flight-arena equipped with a motion capture system in the SnT Automation & Robotics Lab.

Your Profile
Diploma or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or an equivalent degree in engineering with an excellent background in control engineering, sensor data processing and robotics. Furthermore, good programming skills e.g. in C, C++ or Python are required. Additional knowledge in the area of UAV modelling and control and in advanced control and optimization methods would be a strong advantage. Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.
