Postdoc Opportunity at University of Toronto,Canada

We invite applications to a 2-year post-doctoral research position on large lake circulation and water quality modelling. The successful applicant will work with scientists from the University of Toronto and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change to characterize and help interpret water circulation as it underpins water quality gradients in the coastal zone of the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron, Ontario.

Using detailed sets of concurrent physical and chemical field observations from the eastern shore of the 15,000 km2 Georgian Bay, the post-doctoral researcher will select and apply interpretative and predictive models to understand the exchange of nutrients and water quality more generally from rivers to the main body of the lake through the complex archipelago of over 30,000 islands. This analysis of key circulation features to be developed is needed to support environmental management in this complex coastline where the ultra-oligotrophic waters of Lake Huron dilute embayments and channels feed by comparatively nutrient-rich and chemically dissimilar waters draining the Canadian Shield.

Applicants should hold a PhD by the time of appointment in physical limnology or coastal oceanography, and have some background in field observations and numerical modelling. Funding (pending final approval) is for two years at $45,000/yr plus benefits. The post-doctoral researcher will be located at the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough. (http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/physsci/

We will begin reviewing applications March 21st 2016. Applicants should submit: a cover letter providing an overview of their relevant background and indicating when they will be available for the position; their CV; and the names of three references. The application should be emailed to: Dr. Todd Howell (Todd.Howell@ontario.ca ) and Dr Mathew Wells (wells@utsc.utoronto.ca - http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~wells/ )
