Postdoctoral Associate Position in Quantum Monte Carlo at Brown University, USA
Brown University Chemistry Professor is seeking a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow in theoretical quantum chemistry/physics. The fellow will be engaged in developing theoretical tools aimed at determining the electronic structure of strongly correlated and relativistic materials using a combination of stochastic and deterministic methods. The fellow will also be engaged in multi-group collaborative efforts with other theorists and experimentalists and will be expected to help train graduate and undergraduate students.
Ideal candidates should have a background in electronic structure theory or condensed matter/solid state physics and, at least, an understanding of Monte Carlo techniques. Experience using electronic structure packages such as Quantum Expresso, MolPro, and VASP is a plus. Programming skills in C, C++, and Python and an ability to work well with others are a must. Candidates with a demonstrated record of creativity and independent thought will be preferred, regardless of background.
Those hired will sit in the Brown Chemistry Department, a department that houses a number of highly-regarded theorists and physical chemists (see https://www.brown.edu/academics/chemistry/). Brown University is a private, Ivy League University located in Providence, RI, less than an hour away from Boston and less than four hours away from New York City. The university is home to a lively campus, where students are intellectually engaged both inside and outside the classroom. Brown offers an abundance of top departments in the country and interdisciplinary work is encouraged.
Candidates should email a CV, a brief personal statement addressing their interest in this position, and two or more professional recommendations to rubenstein.brenda@gmail.com. All candidates will be interviewed shortly afterwards. Those hired are expected to start during the summer/fall of 2016 and to have completed their Ph.D.s before that date. The position will pay $45 K/year with benefits, but salary is negotiable for those with the correct skills.
